City Council President

The president of the council shall serve as the chairperson of the Committee of the Whole. In addition, the president of the council shall serve as an ex officio member of all city boards and commissions to the extent as allowed by law. The position shall serve as the spokesperson of the City Council.

Mayor's Absences

In the absence of the Mayor, the president of the council shall preside at meetings of the council, and during the absence or inability of the Mayor, shall have the powers and duties of the Mayor, except that he/she shall not have power to approve an act of the Council which the Mayor has disapproved, by filing objections with the clerk. He/she shall when so officiating, be styled "acting Mayor."

Term Length

The president of the council shall be elected for a 1 year term of office.
