The City of Sun Prairie has simplified its Natural Lawn Registration process so that having a no/low-mow and/or pollinator friendly lawn is an accessible option for residents. A natural lawn is an area in a yard left un-mowed that may exceed 8-inches in height from the ground where the only required maintenance is eliminating noxious weeds and invasive species.

A natural lawn may appear more naturalized like a prairie or meadow as opposed to a manicured mulch garden, for example. Some no/low-mow natural lawn options like clover ground cover (or other species that do not grow past 8 inches) do not require this permit.
