Motor Vehicle Parking Restrictions

Vehicles cannot be left on the street for longer than 48 hours without being moved. No unregistered motor vehicle can be located upon any highway or municipal lot within the City of Sun Prairie.

Snow Emergency

When 3 or more inches of snowfall occurs, the City declares a "Snow Emergency." Parking is prohibited on all streets until the snow emergency has been cancelled. Cars parked on a City street in violation of a Snow Emergency may be ticketed or towed. There is a $50.00 fine for parking in violation of a Snow Emergency.

Snow Emergency warnings are called in to local radio and TV stations. You may also contact the Department of Public Works at 608-837-3050.

Snow Routes

Snow Routes are the first streets plowed following a snowfall and are used by emergency vehicles. To effectively clear these streets, they must be free of parked vehicles. City ordinance 10.24.010 prohibits parking on snow routes from midnight to 7:00 a.m. beginning on December 1st through March 31st. Snow routes are marked with red and white signs indicating No Parking - Snow Route. Vehicles parked on snow routes during the restricted time period may be ticketed and towed.

No parking any vehicles or combination of vehicles in excess of 10,000 pounds or over 22 feet in length on any street, avenue, or public way in the City except upon a street in a business district defined by WI Statute 340.01.
