Water Resource Protection

Protecting Our Water Resources

Sun Prairie has provided some form of wastewater treatment since around 1916. There have been 4 major upgrades to the treatment facilities due to growth of the city and more stringent treatment requirements imposed by the Department of Natural Resources.

Recent Upgrades

The most recent upgrade was completed in 2007 and was designed to treat 3.4 million gallons per day and handle the city's treatment needs over the next 10 or more years.

Our Mission

The mission of the facility is to protect the community and the environment. This is accomplished by ensuring that the pipes that transports wastewater from homes and business and all treatment plant equipment is properly maintained. We also perform daily monitoring of all the plant processes to ensure that the wastewater leaving the plant meets the requirements of the state.
