Emergency Ride Home
What is Emergency Ride Home?
If you commute to work by bus, bike, carpool or vanpool, RoundTrip’s Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program is here for you!
The ERH program makes it easier to choose affordable, healthy, and sustainable commute options by providing a ride home in case of emergency to anyone who works in Dane County and primarily commutes by an alternative to driving alone. ERH is administered by RoundTrip and funded by Dane County.
ERH participants are eligible for up to six Union Cab vouchers per year, good for up to $75 per ride. Participants are responsible for driver gratuity and any additional cost beyond $75.
How to Participate
Begin by creating an account with RoundTrip that includes your email, home, and work addresses. Then, request to join the Emergency Ride Home program under “My Rewards” in your RoundTrip Dashboard. Staff will review your request within 1-2 business days. Once approved, you will be able to redeem ERH vouchers through your RoundTrip Dashboard.
If you experience a qualifying situation at work such as personal or family illness or crisis, illness of your carpool/vanpool driver, unscheduled overtime, or bicycle breakdown, simply redeem one voucher in your RoundTrip Dashboard and call Union Cab at (608) 242-2000 to request a ride home.
If you are registered for ERH and unable to redeem a voucher due to technical difficulties, you may pay for the ride and submit your receipt to roundtrip@cityofmadison.com for reimbursement (gratuity not included).
When to Use ERH
ERH is a free program for non-drive-alone commuters in Dane County. It is a safety net intended to help you get home from work in unexpected situations such as personal or family illness, illness of a carpool driver, unscheduled overtime making it impossible to rideshare home, bicycle breakdown, and other similar circumstances.
ERH may not be used if you are running late, if your car breaks down, for personal appointments, to get to destinations such as the airport and entertainment venues, and other situations inconsistent with ERH Program Policies.
