In 2024, the City's Urban Forestry Management Plan (UFMP) was adopted. The UFMP is a comprehensive strategy that outlines the objectives, policies, and actions required to effectively manage and care for Sun Prairie's urban forest.
This plan encompasses various aspects, including tree planting, maintenance, preservation, and sustainable practices. It serves as a roadmap for the City of Sun Prairie to proactively manage its urban forest, ensuring that trees within the community are healthy, safe, and beneficial for all residents. Such a plan is crucial because it helps mitigate environmental challenges such as air pollution, urban heat islands, and stormwater runoff while enhancing the overall quality of life.
As it was developed, the public was engaged in its development. Public input was a key component of the plan as the City aims to ensure that it aligns with the unique needs and aspirations of Sun Prairie's community members, making it a vital tool for building a greener, more sustainable, and resilient community.
