Sun Prairie’s New Polling Places: FAQ
Do I need to re-register to vote if my polling place changed? No.
Why did the City of Sun Prairie add additional polling places? Based on the voter turnout in the November 2018 General Election, it was determined that each polling location was over capacity causing extended wait times.
How were the polling places chosen? Over the course of several months, the City Clerk’s Office reached out to multiple businesses, churches, and organizations to find suitable locations. Based on the extensive criteria necessary, the five new polling locations were determined to be the most appropriate for the needs of the City and it’s voters.
How were the districts divided? Districts were divided by wards to ensure each polling place served approximately the same number of registered voters. Each polling place will serve approximately 2,200 registered voters. This can explain why some voters are no longer voting at the closest polling place.
How can I find out if my polling place has changed? In January 2020, every registered voter in the City of Sun Prairie was mailed a postcard with their polling place listed on it. If you did not receive this postcard, you can visit MyVote.WI.Gov and click “Find My Polling Place.” You will enter your home address and will be given your polling place’s name, address, and a map of it.
