Sun Prairie is honored to receive a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award, joining 488 communities across the country in the movement for safer streets and better bicycling. This recognition is a sign that the Sun Prairie community is moving in the right direction on transportation, community building, safety and sustainability.

Some of the ways Sun Prairie has made this commitment is by providing bike education and training opportunities, bike events that foster a culture of biking, and pro-bike policies and infrastructure that make it a safe and supported option for community members. We join 488 communities across the country who have been rewarded in this effort recognized by the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly America program. This organization sets the standard for how communities evaluate their quality of life, sustainability, and accessibility, while allowing them to benchmark progress toward making biking better

This competitive recognition process has had 850 communities apply but the standards go beyond simply an infrastructure for biking. The Bicycle Friendly Community program, which provides a roadmap to making biking better for communities of all shapes and sizes emphasizing an equity lens on all efforts in education, encouragement maintenance and enforcement. This is accomplished through a reflective process of participative government that creates opportunities for community feedback on experiences and perceptions of biking culture locally.

Sun Prairie is a growing community with commitment to making a thriving, connected and sustainable environment for longtime residents, newcomers and visitors. This effort is part of a larger investment in community building infrastructure, dependent on a welcoming culture and innovative practices. We will continue to bring community in to make these exciting and vital advancements in that effort.
