The City of Sun Prairie is preparing for the 2020 Census and wants to make sure everyone in the community is counted. An Open House to learn more about the 2020 Census and how you can get involved will be taking place on November 13, 2019 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Westside Community Services Building. City and Census staff will be present to share information and answer questions.
Census data determines the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support of states, counties and communities. The 2020 population numbers also affect the number of congressional seats and Electoral College votes each state gets. An undercount means our community misses out on critical funding for programs like Medicaid, Section 8 housing assistance and school lunches.
Residents, businesses and organizations are essential to the City’s 2020 Census outreach efforts. Complete Count Committees are volunteer committees established to increase awareness and motivate residents to respond to the 2020 Census. Complete Count Committees are made up of multiple facets of the community and play an integral part in ensuring a complete and accurate count of the community in the 2020 Census. By acting as census ambassadors and community liaisons, the Complete Count Committee will facilitate information flow between local government, communities, and the US Census Bureau through outreach efforts and information sharing.
The Committee will strategically focus on addressing hard to count areas of the community including minority populations, low-income households, immigrant populations, populations with language barriers, and young children.
