A public hearing to receive input on the Draft Sun Prairie Comprehensive Plan, 2019 – 2039, has been scheduled before the City of Sun Prairie Plan Commission for Tuesday, July 9, 2019. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Sun Prairie Municipal Building, 300 E. Main Street at 7:00 pm.

On Wednesday, June 26, the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee approved a series of final adjustments to the document, and voted unanimously to recommend approval of the Plan to the Plan Commission for consideration.

The new Plan would replace the existing Comprehensive Plan that was adopted in 2009. The Plan was developed with significant public input. In addition to many meetings with the Steering Committee, the process included two series of community forums, a community survey, discussions with over 15 focus groups, meetings with numerous City boards and commissions, joint meetings with the Plan Commission and City Council, and additional online public input activities.

Hardcopies of the Comprehensive Plan are available for review at the Public Library (1350 Linnerud Drive) and at the City Clerk’s Office (300 E. Main Street). The Plan is also available on the Planning Division page of the City’s website.

Anyone interested in providing comments on the Plan is welcome to attend the public hearing to do so. Comments may also be provided in writing to the Planning Division prior to the hearing at 300 E. Main Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590, or by email at skugler@cityofsunprairie.com.

A Comprehensive Plan is the City’s primary policy guide for growth and development decisions. It contains information and goals, policies and actions in the areas of housing, transportation, economic development and land use, among other topics. The City’s Planning Division has been working with MSA Professional Services and a 20-member citizen Steering Committee to develop the Plan since April of 2018.
