Request for Qualifications
On July 10, 2018, a utility crew working in the vicinity of the intersection of Main and Bristol Streets in downtown Sun Prairie struck a gas main, resulting in a major explosion. The blast and ensuing fire completely destroyed six buildings, damaged several others, and caused substantial damage to the surrounding streets and other infrastructure. Although the sites have been cleared and the street reconstructed and open to traffic, the recovery from the incident is far from complete. The City of Sun Prairie is now seeking the assistance of a qualified firm to work with property owners, stakeholders and the public to explore opportunities and identify the best course of action for filling the economic, social and aesthetic void that remains.
The City of Sun Prairie is seeking responses to this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from qualified urban design firms interested in helping the community identify a desired vision and develop an implementation strategy for the redevelopment of the lands surrounding the site of the explosion. Proposals are due in the City Clerk’s Office by 3 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
