Seventy (70) percent of the room tax revenues collected by the City are forwarded to the Commission to be spent on tourism promotion and development by the Commission. The Commission has the authority to carry out the duties set forth in Section 66.75(1m)(c) and (d), Wisconsin Statutes, and as otherwise provided by law. Such duties shall include, without limitation, the following:
- Using the room tax revenue that it receives from the city to promote and develop tourism in the city;
- Reporting any delinquencies or inaccurate reporting of room tax to the city;
- Reporting at least annually to the city the purposes for which the room tax revenues it received were spent.
The Sun Prairie Tourism Commission consists of five (5) members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the majority of the City Council, including one member that represents the local hotel and motel industry. Commission members serve for a one-year term, at the pleasure of the Mayor, and may be reappointed. The Chamber of Commerce shall appoint a liaison to the Tourism Commission that serves as an ex-officio non-voting member.
The Tourism Commission meets as needed determined by the Commission Chairperson, and is currently scheduled for the second Thursday of each month at 8:00AM at City Hall. Please check the calendar for meeting notices and agendas.
