Active Transportation Plan
The City of Sun Prairie is working on a plan that will guide the City in building new bikeways, trails, and sidewalks. The purpose of the plan is to make walking, biking, and rolling in our city easier and safer, and ensure that new infrastructure is built in the areas that most need it.
Tell us what you think!
We are currently seeking input on draft recommendations in the plan. We've prepared two maps and survey poll to gather your input on the infrastructure recommendations:
- View the draft recommended bikeway and trail network (large PDF)
- View the draft recommended sidewalks (large PDF)
- Take the survey to provide feedback on both maps and to tell us how different street users should be prioritized in Sun Prairie.
Background
The City of Sun Prairie, with assistance from Toole Design Group, is developing an Active Transportation Plan to foster an innovative and effective strategy for making bicycle and pedestrian travel an easy, convenient, enjoyable, and effective way to travel to, from, and throughout Sun Prairie. The need and level of interest in both bicycling and walking as a form of transportation and recreation has grown, especially since the onset of the Pandemic, necessitating a dedicated, detailed plan and strategy. Policies and recommendations in the City's Comprehensive Plan alone are not adequate to guide the grown of Sun Prairie's active transportation network, which has 25 miles of on-street bike lanes and 64 miles of off-street, multi-use trails.
