Our Commitment to a Thriving Sun Prairie

Sun Prairie’s guiding principles

“Sun Prairie is committed to advancing equity, honoring our diverse identity, and creating an inclusive culture. These serve as our guiding principles every day in all that we do.

Keep us accountable to this mission and join us in this commitment to a thriving Sun Prairie, as you live, work, and play.”

Fear has tightened its grip on communities around the country and no different can be said about Sun Prairie. Fear as black and brown people that their lives can become expendable like the tragic lost life of George Floyd at the hands of a now fired officer. Fear from those not living with the pain racism inflicts on people of color everyday, now seeing violence erupt in their own backyards and asking why. Fear from peaceful protesters who are getting lumped in with the few violent instigators co-opting a peaceful call for justice.

Fear thrives when shrouded in complacency, misinformation, division and ignorance. Those are not what Sun Prairie Stands for. That is why we are beginning Sun Prairie’s Plan to Restore the Right to Breathe, an effort in collaboration with local leaders of color to change unjust systems, bring together disparate dialogues and give space for healing.

Sun Prairie condemns the murderer of George Floyd unequivocally. We will work to never see it happen again. Please work with us to define our future as thriving Sun Prairie for all. Contact the city’s diversity strategist at rsanon@cityofsunprairie.com to join this effort.
