The City Recycle Center is located at 1798 South Bird Street. Materials accepted at the Recycle Center include mixed recycling (single stream), brush and yard waste, appliances without Freon, oil absorbents, oil filters, waste motor oil, antifreeze, scrap metal, cardboard (flattened). A Recycle Center Permit is required to enter the Recycle Center. This is a sticker that should be displayed on your windshield when entering the facility. 

Residents in 1-4 unit dwellings who currently receive curbside refuse & recycling pickup can access the Recycle Center for free, but must obtain a permit first. Starting in 2023, the City of Sun Prairie expanded access to the Recycle Center to residents who live in multi-family dwellings (5 or more units) and non-residents for a fee.

How to Obtain a Permit

City of Sun Prairie residents receiving curbside collections (1-4 unit dwellings) are eligible for a free permit. Fill out the online application below to have it mailed to you or pick it up in-person at the following locations:

  • City Hall (300 E Main St)
  • Sun Prairie Public Library (1350 Linnerud Dr)
  • Westside Community Service Building Police Department (2598 W Main St) 

Non-residents and City of Sun Prairie residents who reside in multi-family dwellings (5 or more units) must pay a fee for their permit. Fill out the online application or visit City Hall (300 E Main St) to apply and pay for the permit. The Library and Westside Community Service Building cannot process applications for paid permits at this time. Please note: Proof of residence is required for Sun Prairie residents who reside in multi-family dwellings (5 or more units). Proof of residence can include a copy of a government-issued ID, rental lease, or utility bill.
