COMMERCIAL PLAN REVIEW

Building Plans

New construction or additions to commercial, industrial, and certain multifamily residential buildings must first be reviewed by the City of Sun Prairie Planning Division for site plan approval and any necessary conditional use allowances / permits.  This also applies to any change of occupancy or use of existing commercial and industrial buildings.

The City of Sun Prairie has been authorized by the Wisconsin Division of Industry Services to perform plan examinations for all size projects within the City of Sun Prairie. This includes:

  • Building Construction
  • Building Construction Components
  • Building HVAC Systems
  • Means of Egress Illumination
  • Energy Conservation
  • Fire Sprinkler Systems
  • Fire Alarm Systems
  • Plumbing Systems

Items needed for submittal include:

-Building, Mechanical, or Fire Plan Review Application (PDF) or

-Plumbing Plan Review Application (DOCX) completed

-Building, Mechanical, or Fire Plan Compliance Statement(PDF) is required for certain projects prior to final inspection

-3 Sets of plans (or 1 set and 2 additional cover sheets) and supporting documentation relevant to the requested review

-Electronic copy (email, thumb drive, dvd, file share) of plans and supporting documentation relevant to the requested review

The electronic copy will be kept on record with the Division.  Following completion of the project, any paper copies retained by the Division during construction will be returned upon the owner's request or will be recycled.

PLUMBING PLAN REVIEW FEES

Plumbing plan examination fees of all New/Addition/Remodel projects that involve public buildings or places of employment as defined in SPS 360 are calculated off of the application form at the point of service.  The fee schedule can be found on the form.
