An Overview of Your Property Tax Bill
The annual property tax bill received by residents is for several units of local government and not just the City, including Dane County, Madison College (formerly Madison Area Technical College), and the Sun Prairie Area School District.  The following chart illustrates the breakdown of the 2014-2015 mill rate by taxing jurisdiction, which is currently $23.5600 per $1,000 of assessed value:

Invoices and Bills to the City
Approval of bills is a standard agenda item at each City Council meeting.  Departments must follow a formal approval procedure using a purchase order system that requires documentation to justify the expenditure as necessary and that there are funds budgeted for the expenditure.  Go to the Calendar and click on the next City Council meeting.  The City Council Agenda Packet for each meeting includes a a full list of bills submitted for approval and payment.
